During the first session, workshop participants exchanged views and analysis on European perspectives on the state of the Iran nuclear agreement. Attendees also examined remaining policy options over the expiration of the Iranian arms embargo in October 2020 and considered US efforts to impose ‘snapback’ sanctions on Iran. The second session examined how, under the impact of US sanctions and COVID-19, Iran’s role in the region is evolving after the killing of Iranian Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani on 3 January 2020.
