The role of sanctions in Russia’s confrontation with the West

— This event examines what role different types of sanctions can play in the West’s response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Despite continuing diplomatic efforts, Russia’s failure to de-escalate its military activities along Ukraine’s border means that further punitive steps will be taken to prevent the outbreak of war.

Imposing ever harsher sanctions on the Kremlin and key antagonists in Moscow remains a key tool for restricting Russia’s room for manoeuvre and showing western resolve.

During this event, speakers explore which sanctions are most effective, whom or what to target, and whether international actors can reach the consensus necessary for making sanctions as effective as possible.
