Youth representatives: the answer to meaningful engagement?

— How should young people be represented in policymaking processes?

As the world contends with a succession of interrelated crises, from climate change to inflation, how are young people’s interests being represented in policymaking processes?

This hybrid roundtable event considers youth participation at national and international levels of governance. Young people have been gaining attention for their work in elevating issues onto a national and international stage through a combination of advocacy and leadership.

By hearing from different youth representatives, this event looks at the practical ways that young people have been included in governance.

Very few young people become representatives. How do they reflect the interests of such a diverse group of people? What does youth engagement look like behind the scenes? And what more can governments and international organizations do to meaningfully include youth perspectives in their decisions?
