Critical minerals: The UK’s role in securing resilient supply chains

Hear from the Business, Innovation, Science and Trade Committee as it launches its report on how the UK can build resilient critical minerals supply chains, alongside like-minded partners.

Event date and time: 5 November 2026 — 12:00 TO 13:30 GMT

Event location: Hybrid — Chatham House and Online

Critical minerals have moved from the margins of industrial policy to the centre of economic and national security strategy. As demand accelerates and geopolitical competition intensifies, governments face a shared challenge: how to build supply chains that are resilient, responsible and commercially viable. For the UK, the question is not only how to secure access, but also how to draw on its strengths in finance, markets and international partnerships to help shape the next generation of global supply chains.

This event brings together members of the Business, Innovation, Science and Trade Committee, practitioners and policymakers to launch the Committee’s report on critical minerals, unpack their findings, and explore the dilemmas and opportunities facing the UK.

This event discusses:

  • Why have critical minerals become central to economic and national security strategy?
  • What will be required to meet the needs of both the energy transition and future defence capabilities?
  • How can governments build supply chains that are resilient, responsible and commercially viable?
  • How can the UK draw on its strengths in finance, markets and international partnerships to shape the next generation of global supply chains?
  • What role can like-minded nations play in creating durable mineral ecosystems?
  • Where should UK policymakers and industry focus as demand accelerates and competition intensifies?

The discussion will be followed by half an hour of coffee and networking.
