What lies ahead for Belarus?

— In conversation with Nobel Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski and political activist Maria Kalesnikava.

In late 2025, as a gesture toward the US administration, the regime of Aliksandr Lukashenka released and deported 123 political prisoners, including human rights defender Ales Bialiatski and political activist Maria Kalesnikava, who had been imprisoned following the 2020 protests. At the time of their arrest, Belarus was alive with expectations of change, today those expectations have been crushed.

During this event, Ales and Maria will discuss how they view the current negotiations between the Trump administration and Lukashenka’s regime, what an effective Western policy toward Belarus should look like, and how to keep the idea of Belarus’s democratic transformation alive.
