Felix Preston considers who will champion the Paris Agreement if US goes into reverse on climate change

While there is little clarity on the policies Donald Trump will ultimately pursue on energy and climate change, it seems certain that the United States will revert to a negative or passive stance in the international climate negotiations.

There are encouraging signs that Trump may not leave the UN Convention, as he had indicated in his campaign. Hopes for progress will also turn to actions by states and by businesses, not least given the increasing competitiveness of low carbon energy technology.
