On October 9 this year, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered Turkish troops to invade Syria to attack the Kurdish militias of the YPG, a force closely allied to his old foe, the Marxist Kurdistan Workers’ Party which has been in an on-off war with the Turkish state since 1984.
