School students aged 16-18 were invited to send in a short article to answer the question: ‘What makes a good leader?’
In his article, Thomas used Max Weber’s two archetypes of leadership, the magician and the warlord, to compare Steve Jobs of Apple and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.
The judges praised the originality of his approach, and described the piece as ‘well researched and written’ and ‘easily the most stimulating’ of the more than 200 submissions.
The panel of judges was composed of Lord Jim O’Neill, Chair of Chatham House, Sophie Daud, Chief Executive, Future Leaders Network, and Andrew Jack, Global Education Editor of the FT.
