Ana Yang
Ana Yang is the executive director for the Chatham House Sustainability Accelerator. Her interests focus on how to drive change for a fairer and more sustainable future. Ana has strong interdisciplinary work experience and is currently working on understanding how finance and innovation can enable the deep sustainability transition. Prior to joining Chatham House, Ana worked at the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, where she led the land use and finance work stream of the Climate Change Programme. Between 2005 to 2008, she was the executive director of FSC Brazil’s Forest Stewardship Initiative and later joined the International Finance Corporation (IFC)’s Sustainable Business Advisory team, advising companies and investors on impact investments in the Amazon. She is now chair of the board of Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS – Institute for Climate and Society), a grant-making organization based in Brazil focused on climate change and social development. Ana has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas and holds an MSc in Social Policy and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Ana Toni
Dr Ana Toni is the executive director of the Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS). An economist with a PhD in Political Science, Ana has a long history of working with the third sector and promoting projects aimed at social justice and the promotion of public policies, as well as working in the area of the environment and climate change, and philanthropy. Ana was chair of the board of Greenpeace International between 2011 and 2017, and prior to that was director of the Ford Foundation in Brazil (2003–11) and of ActionAid Brasil (1998–2003). She was a member of the board of GIFE (the Brazilian Private Social Investment Association), the Baobá Fund for Racial Equity, and the Wikimedia Foundation, among others. Ana is currently a member of the boards of the Gold Standard foundation, Instituto República, Transparency International – Brazil, and the Instituto Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia (IPAM).
Roberto Waack
Roberto Waack is an entrepreneur and business leader of private companies, including in the pharmaceutical and forest sectors. He is the former chief executive officer (CEO) of the Renova Foundation, as well as a founder, shareholder, former CEO and chair of the board of Amata SA. Roberto is also a board member of various Brazilian companies and civil society organizations, including Marfrig, Wise Plásticos SA, Synergia, the Arapyau Institute, the Ethos Institute and WWF-Brasil. Previously he held positions on the boards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Roberto is a founding member of multi-stakeholder organizations such as the Brazilian Coalition on Climate, Forests and Agriculture and One Concertation for the Amazon, and is a Chatham House visiting fellow. Roberto is a biologist and holds a master’s in Business Administration from the University of São Paulo.
Joaquim Levy
Dr Joaquim Levy is director for economic strategy and market relations at Banco Safra. A former minister of finance of Brazil and president of the Brazilian National Development Bank (BNDES), he has also been managing director and chief financial officer of the World Bank, vice-president for finance and administration at the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), and secretary of the Brazilian treasury. Holding a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago, and a bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture from UFRJ (the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), he led one of the largest asset management companies in Brazil, with $130 billion in assets under management, where he promoted responsible investment practices and products. A member of the global board of the World Resources Institute and of the Latin America Conservation Council of The Nature Conservancy, he engaged with this research while on sabbatical as a fellow of the Steyer-Taylor Centre for Energy Policy and Finance at Stanford Law School.
