Biography
Dr Abel Abate Demissie is an associate fellow in the Africa Programme at Chatham House focusing on Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa region.
Abel worked as a political adviser for the British Embassy in Addis Ababa between 2015 and 2019, and as a senior researcher and, latterly, programme head at the government-run think tank, the Ethiopian Foreign Relations Strategic Studies Institute, between 2012 and 2015.
Abel has extensive experience of providing analysis and high-level policy briefings to a wide range of organizations and government departments, and his work has been published widely across international media and in academic literature.
Over the years, Abel has worked with and advised several international organizations working on peacebuilding, conflict resolution, governance and democratization.
