Biography

Dr Ashley Thomas Lenihan is a Professor of the Practice of International Affairs and Deputy Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program at Georgetown University. She is an expert on economic statecraft, foreign investment, and national security, and author of Balancing Power without Weapons. Her policy work in the UK, US, and Europe focuses on these issues, and improving research’s impact on policymaking. She regularly provides testimony to Parliament and consults for public and private sector bodies internationally. She is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and individual member of the UK Parliamentary & Scientific Committee.

Ashley was previously Head of Policy & Engagement at the British Academy of Management, a Senior Policy Advisor at the Academy of Social Sciences, an Associate at LSE IDEAS, and a Fellow at LSE’s Centre for International Studies, among other roles in the UK. She began her career as an investment banking analyst at DLJ/CSFB, and holds her BSFS and PhD from Georgetown.
