Mozambique is undergoing an economic transition that has significant implications for the country’s citizens and development prospects.
The potential for Mozambique to develop a world-class liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry has attracted considerable investment into the country and has stimulated growth.
Between 2006 and 2016, GDP per capita increased by over 42 per cent. The government borrowed heavily against future revenues however, and policymakers will need to ensure that economic growth is inclusive, and does not exacerbate citizen disaffection and inequality.
