Abel Abate Demissie

Biography

Dr Abel Abate Demissie is an associate fellow in the Africa Programme at Chatham House, focusing on the Horn of Africa region. Abel also works as an adviser at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD). 

Abel worked as a senior adviser and a country representative at Interpeace and as interim director and programme manager for the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD). He also worked as a political adviser for the British Embassy in Addis Ababa and as a senior researcher and, latterly, programme head at the government-run think tank, the Ethiopian Foreign Relations Strategic Studies Institute. 


Abel has extensive experience providing analysis and high-level policy briefings to a wide range of organizations and government departments, and his work has been widely published in international media and academic literature. 

Abel has worked with and advised several international organizations on peacemaking, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, governance and democratisation.
