I would like to thank the large number of people, including anonymous reviewers, who contributed comments on successive drafts of this paper, and Nora Greenglass, who wrote the original draft of the research set out in Chapter 12, which appeared in my 2017 paper, Woody Biomass for Power and Heat: Impacts on the Global Climate. Rob Bailey, Jens Hein, Owen Grafham and Melissa MacEwen at Chatham House have provided long-suffering and much-appreciated support and assistance. Responsibility for all errors of course remains with me.
