Turkmenistan: After the Father

The self-proclaimed father of all Turkmen is dead. The man who populated the country with monuments to himself and banned gold teeth will be replaced this month by the country’s first post-Soviet leader. The end of an era atmosphere is reminiscent of that in Moscow when Communist Party leader Leonid Brezhnev died. People dare not think that change is possible.
