McCain The funeral of Senator John McCain at the Washington National Catherdral on September 1 was well attended by both sides of the political spectrum – including former presidents Obama and Bush. One notable absentee was President Donald Trump who was uninvited by McCain as he prepared his own funeral. McCain was widely known as a Republican ‘maverick’ who often crossed party lines on a whole host of issues. Most recently, his unexpected vote against repealing Obamacare during a tense, late night Senate session.
Manafort/Cohen Michael Cohen, former lawyer to Trump, pleaded guilty on August 22 to charges of fraud, tax evasion and campaign finance violations. During his trial, Cohen said that the president directed him to pay ‘hush money’ to two women to silence their allegations of an affair with Trump. His attorney has confirmed that Cohen has provided ‘critical information’ to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
