Europe’s Strategic Choices, Chatham House’s annual conference in Berlin, took place over two days at the end of November. More than 400 high-level delegates from around the world gathered in person and online to listen to 65 speakers. They debated the stark outlook facing Europe: weak governments in France and Germany, the long-term slow but steady growth of extremist parties, Ukraine’s struggle to fight off Russia and the return of Donald Trump to the White House.
