About the authors
Pepijn Bergsen joined Chatham House in September 2019 as research fellow in the Europe Programme, working mainly on issues related to the European economy. Previously he worked as an economic policy adviser for the Dutch government, focusing mainly on international trade issues, and spent several years as an economic and political analyst working on Europe at the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Alice Billon-Galland is a research associate in the Europe Programme at Chatham House, covering security and defence issues. Prior to that, she led the European defence programme at the European Leadership Network (ELN) in London. Alice’s research focuses on European defence cooperation, French foreign and defence policy, transatlantic burden-sharing, and developments at the EU and NATO.
Hans Kundnani is a senior research fellow in the Europe Programme at Chatham House. Before joining Chatham House in 2018, he was a Senior Transatlantic Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, and research director at the European Council on Foreign Relations. In 2016 he was a Bosch Public Policy Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington, DC. He is the author of The Paradox of German Power (Hurst/Oxford University Press, 2014), which has been translated into German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.
Vassilis Ntousas is currently the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Academy Fellow at Chatham House, where his research focuses on the role of the EU in renewing the multilateral system. From 2015 to 2019, he was the senior international relations policy adviser at the Foundation for European Progressive Studies in Brussels, leading the design and implementation of the foundation’s global research and activity programmes. He is the author of several policy papers, and regularly comments on international developments for international and Greek media outlets.
Thomas Raines leads the Europe Programme at Chatham House. Previously, he was manager and research fellow with the programme. Prior to joining Chatham House, he worked in the Strategy Unit of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. His research interests lie in British foreign policy, the UK’s relationship with the EU, and European politics.
