Biography
Hady Amr is an Associate Fellow with the Middle East and North Africa Programme. He is also currently a nonresident senior fellow in the Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution and affiliate faculty at George Mason University. He has decades of experience working on US–Middle East relations, Israeli–Palestinian affairs, and human development.
He recently served as US Special Representative for Palestinian Affairs from 2022-2025 and was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs from 2021-2022. From 2013-2017, he served on Secretary of State John Kerry’s Israeli-Palestinian negotiation team, including as deputy special envoy for economics and Gaza. From 2010-2013, he was Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Middle East at USAID, overseeing major assistance programs across the region.
His career also includes positions at the US Departments of Defense and Homeland Security as well as having worked with or advised the World Bank, World Economic Forum, and various United Nations agencies. He has offered commentary including to the BBC, CNN, NPR and others and is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He holds an undergraduate degree from Tufts University and a graduate degree from Princeton University.
