The COVID-19 pandemic exposed fault lines in the global order as national interests and domestic politics, rather than a coordinated international effort, shaped our responses. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine now threatens to upend the global order as we know it, having already rewritten existing frameworks and conceptions of international security in Europe.

We have entered a new phase of geopolitical competition and confrontation that will require navigating a multiplicity of risks and potential for conflict. How we respond will shape our ability to address the systemic challenges of our age, above all climate change and delivering sustainable and equitable health and development, after the ravages of the pandemic.

As we begin our second century, the London Conference assesses the state of global order and pathways to manage multiple parallel crises, in the context of complex interconnected systems and societies in a more divided world.

This year’s conference took place in a hybrid format. In-person attendance was by invitation with participants able to engage in plenary and breakout sessions, host discussions in the ‘UnConference’ space and journey through an on-site Futurescape exhibition exploring what a sustainable London can look like over the next 100 years. Virtual attendees registered to engage in plenary sessions, online Q&As and polling.
