Biography
Rem Korteweg is senior research fellow at the Clingendael Institute in The Hague. He works on issues at the intersection of trade, foreign policy and security and has an interest in the impact of geopolitics on economic globalization. His current research focuses on European trade and industrial policy, economic security, critical materials policy, and the future of transatlantic relations.
He is the curator of the Global Trade Series, a podcast exploring the economic and political dynamics shaping the global trade landscape. Rem also leads the Clingendael US Programme, focused on building a deeper understanding of US foreign policy.
Until 2017 Rem was a senior research fellow at the Centre for European Reform (CER). In 2012, he was posted at the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs as strategic policy advisor. From 2006 until 2007, he was a Fulbright scholar at Johns Hopkins-SAIS in Washington DC. Rem holds a PhD in International Relations from Leiden University.
