Phesheya Nxumalo is a research associate in the Environment and Society Centre at Chatham House, focusing on natural resource governance, the energy transition and the geopolitical trends affecting climate change and action. Her research explores the drivers of resource dependencies, effective mechanisms to achieve a just and orderly energy transition, and new frontiers and pathways to a more equitable and sustainable future.
Ruth E. Mathews is a senior water governance specialist and thought leader in water footprint assessment, value chain water risks, cross-sector governance and water stewardship. Her work focuses on strengthening coordination across public, private and civil society actors, and on developing practical methods and guidance that enable organizations to address trade-offs and systemic risks. As founder and principal of Currents Converge, she supports governments, companies and civil society in advancing holistic governance across sectors and ecosystems.
Previously, Ruth served as executive director of the Water Footprint Network, where she led global efforts to operationalize water footprint assessment. She also directed the Source-to-Sea Programme at the Stockholm International Water Institute and has held leadership roles with WWF and The Nature Conservancy. She has implemented projects and capacity-development initiatives globally.
