Turkey: Testing Democracy

Politics in Turkey was always likely to get rough this year. Both a new president and parliament had to be chosen. But few would have predicted that the military would come so forcefully onto the stage, that there would be huge demonstrations and the foundations of the country’s understanding of secularism would be challenged by social change.
