India’s economic ties with China are booming. Is this reducing strategic competition between them?

While economic ties are growing, there are fundamental imbalances within that relationship – India has tended to export primary products to China while importing higher value-added manufactured goods. As regards strategic competition, it makes more sense to look at wider shifts in the international order with regard to coalitions of interest: states will work together and cooperate where it makes sense, and remain on different sides on other issues.
