Iran On May 9, Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement, opening a rift with US allies in Europe. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo later demanded that Iran end all nuclear enrichment and reduce its influence in the region. He threatened ‘the strongest sanctions in history’ if Iran did not comply. European signatories of the deal, Britain, France and Germany, promised to try to preserve it, despite the threat of crippling sanctions against firms trading with Iran.
