The Kremlin Spectrum: Western Approaches Towards Russia

The panel debates the very real disparities in how Russia is viewed in the West.

Event date and time: 14 May 2019 — 18:00 TO 19:15 BST

Event location: Chatham House | 10 St James's Square | London | SW1Y 4LE

Few subjects in international affairs seem to polarize Western expert opinion like Russia. From so-called apologists to so-called hawks – both over-generalized descriptions – the differences in how Russia is perceived occur at every level. From ‘how have Western experts arrived to where they are?’ to ‘what to do now?’, approaches to Russia vary greatly.

  • How will these disparities manifest themselves in future policy options?

  • How are the domestic, foreign and security policies of Russia perceived among these different groups and why does this matter?
