As part of the 50th anniversary of the Club of Rome, this event launches Anders Wijkman and Ernst von Weizsäcker’s book Come On! Capitalism, Short-termism, Population and the Destruction of the Planet: A Report to the Club of Rome, published by Springer.
The authors discuss how a ‘prosperous future for all’ requires that economic well-being largely decouples from the destruction of natural resources, especially in agriculture, and the pollution of the atmosphere.
They argue that this can only be achieved with a ‘New Enlightenment’ where a balance exists between humans and nature, between short-term and long-term considerations and between public and private interests.
