The Islamic Republic at 44: Iran’s trajectory amidst increasing pressures

Experts explore the implications of the protests in Iran for domestic stability and international policy towards the Islamic Republic.

Event date and time: 2 February 2023 — 13:30 TO 14:30 GMT

Event location: Online

The 44-year anniversary of the Iranian Revolution comes after a period of pronounced instability and intense cycles of protests in Iran. Following Mahsa Amini’s death, the Islamic Republic has seen protests spread throughout the country and through all cleavages of Iranian society.

Despite a clear crisis of legitimacy, the Iranian leadership has responded with increasing repression and a brutal crackdown on protesters.

This webinar, part of the MENA Programme’s online event series, brings together a panel of experts to consider the social and policy impacts of the protests.

Panellists discuss the prospects for political or regime change, and the implications of recent events for international policy towards Iran.

This event will be held on the record and livestreamed on the MENA Programme’s Facebook page.
