Mozambique is celebrating its 50th anniversary of independence from Portugal at a crucial time, with key investment decisions on its economic future imminent and a national reform process underway. The country is emerging from the political uncertainty following the October 2024 elections, while ongoing armed insecurity in Cabo Delgado, economic fragility, and recurring climate shocks continue to test national resilience.
Since his inauguration in January, President Daniel Francisco Chapo has pledged to prioritise reforms. In April, parliament unanimously passed into law a commitment to a national inclusive dialogue - developed from a March agreement with opposition leaders reached after direct talks - focused on reforming the state, justice and electoral systems. A new electoral law is expected to be finalised by March 2026.
At this event, HE Daniel Francisco Chapo will outline his administration’s political and economic priorities, and his ambitions for deepening regional and international partnerships.
