Turkey’s influence and power is growing in the Eastern Mediterranean. This development tops the agenda at the special European Council summit on 24-25 September. Germany, NATO and the US are seeking to de-escalate disagreements between Cyprus, Greece, France and Turkey over maritime boundaries and potential hydrocarbon resources and to avoid the risk of convergence with wider conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

In this webinar, the Turkish Foreign Minister will discuss Turkey’s objectives in the Eastern Mediterranean. What are Turkey’s plans for exploring oil and gas resources in the continental shelf? What are its ideas for preventing friction between states and stakeholders? What are the implications for EU-Turkey relations and stability in the MENA region?
