The global health and development architecture has faced unprecedented challenges in recent years, from struggling to deliver equal vaccine access during the pandemic, to the slow response of international institutions in responding to crises. This has exacerbated development challenges in many parts of the world, and the UK’s influence on global health and development has shrunk in recent years due to budgetary cuts.
Against this backdrop, actors across the public and private sector are looking for ways to strengthen Britain’s role in global governance on key topics such as international development, access and funding for global health projects, and incentivizing investment in the UK science and technology domains.
Chatham House, in partnership with GSK and UNICEF UK, will discuss:
- What role will global health play in Labour’s international development strategy?
- What metrics will the government use to analyse when to increase development and health related spending, and what will the priority areas be?
- How will the Labour Government reset the UK’s relationship with partners in ‘the Global South’ and take a new approach to development partnerships?
- How can the government further incentivise investment in the UK health, science and technology domains to create a resilient ecosystem for all?
- What scope is there for further collaboration with the EU and other like-minded partners on key science, technology and research related matters?
