A broad-scale, cross-sectoral alliance joining the private sector, civil society, international agencies and national governments will be necessary if women’s economic empowerment is to be achieved and sustained on a global scale. A report arguing for a new approach for including women—one that makes use of the special capabilities of the private sector and harnesses the world economy for change—will be launched at Chatham House.
Since 2014, Linda Scott has convened a group of major multinationals to discuss this topic and has distilled the learnings from these meetings in her report. Her report explains the business reasons that global companies engage in this work, how they partner with other organizations, as well as the scope and strategy of projects undertaken over the past decade. The group who participated in these biannual discussions have now formed the Global Business Coalition for Women’s Economic Empowerment and representatives from all the corporations comprising the group—Coca-Cola, ExxonMobil, Goldman Sachs, Marks & Spencer, Mastercard, Mondelēz International, PwC, Qualcomm Wireless Reach and Walmart—will be present at this event to discuss the issues.
This report launch is being held in conjunction with Oxford University.
Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
