Sustainability Accelerator

The Sustainability Accelerator is a major initiative to increase the speed and scale of the transition to a sustainable, inclusive future.

The Sustainability Accelerator (formerly Hoffmann Centre for Sustainable Resource Economy) puts sustainability at the core of Chatham House’s work. We research, assemble and incubate the ideas, expertise and energy that will help the world accelerate towards a sustainable future.

Activities

We engage with innovators, investors, entrepreneurs, policymakers and other players in business, research, civil society and youth movements to investigate and share innovative and experimental ideas that enable radical shifts that allow us to prosper without exhausting our planet’s resources.

Research focus

We focus on underexplored technologies, players and frameworks to tackle areas including:

  • Regenerative land economy and circular built environment;
  • The role of finance and technology as enablers of sustainable transition;
  • Consumption-driven economic growth models.

One of the major aims is to shorten the policy cycle between inception and implementation, with the Accelerator acting as a springboard for ideas and solutions.

The initiative has been made possible with £10m from the Hoffmann family’s MAVA Foundation.
