What's next for Gaza?

— A panel of experts discuss reconstruction, governance, security and the future of Palestinian statehood.

The implementation of the initial phase of US President Trump’s peace plan marks an important step towards the conclusion of the Gaza war. However, the ceasefire remains fragile, with unresolved issues threatening the truce. What happens next in Gaza remains uncertain. With more than 80 per cent of the Gaza strip destroyed and an unprecedented scale of fatalities, injuries and displacement amongst its 2.2 million residents, enormous resources and time are needed to reconstruct and rehabilitate the Strip.

This webinar explores prospects for reconstruction and aid delivery, questions of governance and security in Gaza, and the broader diplomatic and legal pathways toward implementing Trump’s peace plan.

Panellists discuss questions including:

  • Can the 20-point plan’s security and governance provisions be effectively implemented, and what factors will determine its success or failure?
  • Are the direct parties to the agreement, Hamas and the Israeli government, ready and willing to implement their part of the deal?
  • What role can Arab and Muslim countries play in reconstruction and political stabilization, and how coordinated are their efforts?
  • What space exists for Palestinian agency and leadership in shaping Gaza’s political future and the pathway to statehood?
  • Can the ceasefire be a first building block towards a permanent end to IsraelPalestinian conflict?
