Patrick Schröder is a senior research fellow in the Environment and Society Centre at Chatham House. He is a coordinating lead author for both the IPCC Assessment Report 7 (WG III – Mitigation) and the UN Global Environment Outlook 7. Patrick is also a member of the International Science Council Expert Group on Plastic Pollution.
His academic work has been published in leading journals, including Nature Sustainability and the Journal of Industrial Ecology, and he has edited two books on the circular economy. His opinion pieces and comments appear in Foreign Policy, the Guardian, the Financial Times, The Independent, Devex, The Hill and China Daily, among others.
Before joining Chatham House, Patrick was a research fellow at the University of Sussex’s Institute of Development Studies, and spent seven years in Beijing working with Chinese environmental NGOs, the European Union and GIZ on climate and sustainability programmes.
Bhargabi Bharadwaj is a research associate in the Environment and Society Centre at Chatham House, specializing in resource security and governance. Bhargabi hosts The Climate Briefing, a podcast by Chatham House, on which she interviews global leaders and experts on climate geopolitics. She also serves as an IPCC Chapter Scientist for Working Group III.
Before Chatham House, she led assessments of the UK’s adaptation progress with the Climate Change Committee (CCC) and coordinated implementation of humanitarian-development frameworks with the United Nations in North Korea. She holds an LLM in public international law from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as a bachelor of law from the University of Kent.
Richard King is a senior research fellow and lead for natural resources in the Environment and Society Centre. Richard’s work focuses on the sustainability and systemic risks to/from food systems, agriculture, land use and soft commodity resource trade. He is the lead author of Chatham House’s 2023 report on The emerging global crisis of land use and was a lead author on the UN’s Global Environment Outlook 6. Prior to joining Chatham House, Richard was deputy head of research at Oxfam GB, where he specialized in food and rural livelihoods, particularly in the contexts of climate change, resource constraints and market volatility.
