Global support for universal health coverage (UHC) is gaining momentum. In December 2012, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously passed a resolution encouraging member states to move towards universal health coverage.
The Chatham House UHC Policy Forum will develop evidence-based policy options and scenarios that governments around the world could consider as they move towards universal health coverage. It will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach by bringing together leading experts in public health, health systems reforms and health economics. In addition, it will research an often-neglected area of vital importance: that large-scale health reforms are political processes, involving the allocation of scarce health resources across competing interest groups. The Chatham House UHC Policy Forum will therefore add value in specifically addressing the political economy of health reforms.
The policy forum is based in the Centre on Global Health Security at Chatham House. It is led by Robert Yates, who is a leading expert on UHC and pro-poor health financing reforms.
