Gender and equality: Research and policy

Our work explores gender equality, equity and discrimination, women’s empowerment, the sharing of unpaid work, and the role of gender in achieving the SDGs.

Many women are still excluded from economic decision-making within their household, receive lower salaries than men, and work longer hours. They are also often excluded from the labour market, do not have access to finance, and are denied property rights. 

Recent Chatham House work explores, among other topics, gendered cyber harms and gendered hate speech, issues affecting women in countries like Afghanistan and Iran, LGBTQ rights and equality and diversity.
