Olivia O’Sullivan is Director of the UK in the World Programme at Chatham House.

Some of the UK’s most important and enduring post-war relationships – those with the US and Europe – are shifting. At the same time, the growing influence of China, middle powers and ‘Global South’ countries on global economy, security, and governance make for a more multipolar and less predictable world.

The UK in the World programme focuses on how the UK navigates these shifts. We produce independent research on these issues, focused on practical and timely recommendations, and convene discussions with experts and decision-makers to share experience, analysis and ideas.

Key themes:

  • How the UK navigates between the EU, US and China
  • How the UK invests in economic and societal resilience, science and technology, and defence to enhance its global power
  • How the UK builds strategic relationships with the Global South
