Latin America is an important destination for foreign investment by external powers, and an increasingly important trade partner for Europe in particular.

The Latin America Programme is a leading centre of expertise on one of the world’s most consequential and rapidly evolving regions. Our work spans the political, economic and security challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean, and their implications for global governance.

We equip policy shapers across governments, civil society and the private sector with the tools to understand the most consequential changes taking place across Latin America and the Caribbean. Our research studies the region’s shifting political landscape, its changing relationships with the United States, China and Europe, and implications for human rights, trade and security. We also inform options for the UK, Europe and multilateral institutions navigating the continent in an era of regional and global recalibration.
